Ten second delay broadcasts during the Olympics
There is a good chance that anything you watch “live” during the Beijing Olympics will have been delayed 10 seconds according to this article in Australia’s Age newspaper.
China’s Olympic organizers have said several times that they are giving complete freedom to reporters covering the games. This included uncensored internet access, but even now many sites such as blogger.com are still blocked.
Media organizations have reported they have had trouble getting their equipment into the country and having enough time to adequately prepare. Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Co Ltd (BOB) is in charge of recording and releasing the footage to foreign news organizations. Only a few media outlets will have their own cameras inside the venues. BOB have said they will not release any controversial material, such as protests.
Why would we [film and release protests]?” said a BOB executive. “We are not a news organisation. We’re there to film the event.”
The IOC president, Jacques Rogge said any reports of censorship were unfounded.
Jacques Rogge has a recto-cranial inversion.
Honestly, how could anyone expect there to be anything but heavy censorship ?
