Baseball was introduced to the Olympics in 1992. It is most popular in the U.S. but because of the season conflict major league players don’t compete. Cuba and Japan are also strong teams.

South Korea beats Cuba to win gold in baseball
South Korea has defeated Cuba 3-2 to win the gold in baseball at the Beijing Olympics.
The United States beat Japan in an earlier game to win the bronze medal.
The United States has defeated Japan to win the bronze medal in baseball, with a final score of 8-4. It was the first event I watched live and will post more pictures soon.

China and the US have fiery clash in the baseball
In a fiery game between China and the United States in the baseball, the Chinese manager, James Lefebvre and relief pitcher Chen Kun were ejected from the game.
The Chinese catcher was also injured in the heated game. America won 9-1.

Yu Darvish to play for Japan at the Beijing Olympics
Yu Darvish who has an Iranian father and Japanese mother will pitch for the Japanese baseball team at the Beijing Olympics. Darvish dropped his Iranian citizenship so he could represent Japan.
It will be the last Olympics that baseball will be played, although it could make a return at the 2016 games.

Eight baseball teams vie for three Olympic spots
Eight baseball teams will compete for just three wildcard entries in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The teams are from Taiwan, Australia, Canada, Spain, Mexico, South Africa and Germany.
China, Japan, United States, Cuba and the Netherlands have already qualified.
Taiwan to host two baseball qualifying events
Taiwan will be hosting two qualifying events for the Beijing Olympics.
“We will hold the Asian Olympics Qualifiers and another qualifying game to select three more teams which will join the Beijing Olympics with wild card,” Lin Tsung-cheng, seretary-general of Taiwan’s baseball association said.

Forty-five year old Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens is considering to pitch for the US team in Beijing. He has been struggling with injuries this season.
