Football Soccer Beijing Olympics

Football or soccer as it is known in many countries is an under-23 year competition at the Olympics. Teams are allowed to have 3 senior players. This year the number of competing countries has been increased from 12 to 16.

Venues: Beijing National Stadium, Workers’ Stadium, Qinhuangdao Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, Shanghai Stadium, Shenyang Olympic Stadium, Tianjin Olympic Centre Stadium

Argentina defeats Nigeria 1-0 to win Olympic gold in men’s football

Angel di Maria of Argentina scored the only goal against Nigeria, earning them the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. Argentina also won the gold medal at the 2004 Athens games.

Brazil beat Belgium yesterday to win the bronze medal.
