Oussama Mellouli beats Grant Hackett to win men’s 1500m freestyle
Oussama Mellouli from Tunisia has won the gold medal in the men’s 1500m freestyle, a race which Grant Hackett from Australia was favorite to win and had won at the previous two Olympics. Mellouli won the race in 14:40.84.
Hackett still managed to win the silver medal and Ryan Cochrane from Canada won the bronze.

Lin Zhang won China’s first swimming medal with a silver medal and Larsen Jensen from the United States finished third to take the bronze.
Larsen Jensen fastest in men’s 400 meters freestyle
Larsen Jensen was the fastest swimmer in the qualifiers in the 400 meter freestyle. Grant Hackett was just a second behind him.
China’s Zhang Lin was just behind Jensen.

Day 2 preview of the Beijing Olympics
Day two of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, promises to be even more action packed than yesterday with a total of 14 gold medals up for grabs.
Four of those medals are in the swimming: Men’s 400m Individual Medley, Men’s 400m Freestyle, Women’s 400m Individual Medley and Women’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay.

Grant Hackett from Australia has won his heat in the men’s 400 meter freestyle. He uses the race as a warm-up for his specialty, the 1500m. Craig Stevens failed to qualify.
Jessicah Schipper from Brisbane has qualified in first place in the women’s 100m Butterfly with a time of 57.58.

The swimming competition at the 2008 Beijing Olympics will be remembered for the fantastic new Water Cube Stadium and the LZR racer swimsuits, which should bring a swag of new records.
