Taekwando was invented in Korea and was introduced to the Olympics at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. There are 8 medals in total up for grabs in both men’s and women’s events.
Maria del Rosario Espinoza wins gold in women’s 67kg plus taekwondo
Maria del Rosario Espinoza from Mexico has won the gold medal in the women’s 67kg plus division of taekwondo.
Nina Solheim from Norway won the silver medal. Sarah Stevenson from Great Britain and Natalia Falavigna from Brazil won bronze medals.
South Korea continue their domination in the taekwondo with Dongmin Cha winning the gold in men’s 80kg plus division.
Alexandros Nikolaidis from Greece won the silver medal and bronze medals went to Chika Yagazie Chukwumerije from Nigeria and Arman Chilmanov from Kazakhstan.
Hadi Saei from Iran has won the gold medal in the men’s 80kg men’s taekwondo.
Mauro Sarmiento from Italy won the silver medal. Steven Lopez from the United States won a bronze medal together with Guo Zhu from China.
Kyungseon Hwang from South Korea has won the gold medal in the women’s 67kg taekwondo.
Karine Sergerie from Canada won the silver medal. Sandra Saric from Croatia won the bronze medal together with Gwladys Patience Epangue from France.
South Korea beats US in men’s 68kg taekwondo
Son Tae-jin from South Korea beat Mark Lopez of the United States, 3-2 to win gold in the men’s 68kg division of the taekwondo.
Servet Tazegul from Turkey and Yu-Chi Sung from Chinese Taipei won bronze medals.
Sujeong Lim wins gold in the women’s 57kg taekwondo
Sujeong Lim from South Korea has won the gold medal in the women’s 57kg taekwondo. Azize Tanrikulu from Turkey won the silver medal.
Martina Zubcic from Croatia picked up the bronze along with Diana Lopez from the United States. Diana Lopez is one of three Lopez’s competing in the Beijing Olympics.
Guillermo Perez of Mexicao wins 58kg men’s taekwondo
Guillermo Perez from Mexico has won the gold medal in the men’s 58kg men’s taekwondo.
Yulis Gabriel Mercedes from the Dominican Republic won the silver medal. Mu-Yen Chu of Chinese Taipei and Rohullah Nikpai of Afghanistan won bronze medals.
