Mongolia wins gold in bantam-weight boxing
Mongolian Badar-Uugan Enkhbat beat Cuban Yankiel Leon Alarcon 16-5 to win the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics in the bantam-weight division.
Bruno Julie from Mauritius and Veaceslav Gojan from Moldova won bronze medals.
Zou Shiming wins China’s first boxing gold medal
China’s Zou Shiming won China’s first boxing gold today by defeating Mongolia’s Serdamba Purevdorj in the final of the light-flyweight class.
The fight ended early as Purevdorj withdrew with a should injury.
Paddy Barnes from Ireland and G Yampier Hernandez from Cuba won bronze medals.
Tuvshinbayar Naidan from Mongolia has won the men’s 100kg judo gold medal at the Beijing Olympics, beating Askhat Zhitkeyev from Kazakhstan.
This is Mongolia’s first ever gold medal at an Olympic games.
Bronze medals went to Movlud Miraliyev from Azerbaijan and Henk Grol from the Netherlands.
Chen Ying of China won the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol with a final score of 793.4, which is an Olympic record.
Otryad Gundegmaa of Mongolia won the silver medal with 792.2, and the bronze medal was won by Dorjsuren Munkhbayar of Germany with a score of 789.2.
Marathoners feel the cold rather than pollution
The Good Luck Beijing marathon was held on Sunday. Rather than pollution runners complained about the cold. It started to rain about 20 minutes into the race slowing the runners down.
Chen Rong from China won the women’s race and Serod Batochir from Mongolia won the men’s event.
