With all of the security, gates and guards in China you sometimes have to ask yourself, who are they trying to keep out or are they trying to keep you in.

Journalists at the media press center for the Beijing Olympics are asking themselves just that when they noticed an APC parked out the front of their building when they arrived for work this morning, as reported in the the Age.

An APC looks like a tank on wheels and includes a 25 mm cannon and a 7.62 mm machine gun.

Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates said he had no idea as to why it was parked there.

“I think you have got to put a lot of that down to the preoccupation with security,” he said. “And they haven’t been able to manage the balance between security and creating that atmosphere I suppose.”
