Kevan Gosper: reputation dented over internet issue

Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, Kevan Gosper says his reputation has been “dented” over the internet issue which has affected journalists working at the Media Press Center for the Beijing Olympics.

Gosper claims he did not know that there was an agreement between China and the IOC to control internet access during the games.

“Whoever was involved in that shift in position should have made it known to the international media..I should have been informed too,” he said.

“We should not have surprised the international media on the eve of the Olympics.

Gosper is the Chief of the IOC Press Commission and handles a lot of Olympic dealingd with the media, so no doubt he was surprised about the news.

“It has dented my reputation quite seriously.”

IOC President Jacques Rogge arrived in Beijing yesterday and the internet issue is probably one of the first problems he has to deal with, although little could be done if it goes against Chinese law.

BBC is reporting that the Chinese language version of the site is now accessible.
