World’s largest color LED display

Beijing solar LEDs

As oil approached $200 a barrel and the world faces an energy crisis, it is somewhat ironic that one of the largest growing users of energy has built the world’s largest LED display powered by solar energy. The Zero Media Energy Wall was designed by architect-engineer Simone Giostra & Partners, a New York-based firm and engineering by Arup.

While some people may wonder about the significance of producing electricity to power a piece of art, the project used Chinese manufacturer Suntech, who produced the first glass solar panels in China. Photovoltaic cells may not solve the world’s energy problems, but combined with wind and hydroelectric power it is a positive step in moving our reliance on fossil fuels for energy.
