Watercube unveiled

Beijing Olympic organizers have unveiled the new Beijing aquatic center dubbed the watercube.

It sits alongside the new National Stadium which also has it nickname the “birds nest“. The swimming center looks like a giant bar of soap with its bubble like exterior.

The building will be converted to a shopping center after the Olympics and was funded entirely from donations from overseas Chinese.

“This building was designed for use after the games,” said John Pauline of PTW Architects, one of the lead architects on the Watercube. “We were looking at 30 or 40 years from now.”
