Olympic features heavily in Chinese New Year celebrations
China celebrated the New Year this week and many of the celebrations held throughout China had an Olympic theme.
China’s national TV network CCTV featured a story of an elderly couple competing to become an Olympic torch bearer.
Beijing Panda Fireworks released a special Olympic package that had five kinds of crackers symbolizing the five Olympic rings and the five ring roads that circle Beijing.
Sales of the Olympic mascots were also brisk.
“We sold about 10,000 yuan worth of ‘Fuwa’ per day since the middle of January, whereas before that, we got only about 2,000 yuan in daily sales. People bought them mainly as greeting presents,” said one approved Beijing outlet for mascot sales in Wangfujing Street, one of the bustling commercial districts in the Chinese capital.
