Argentina defeats Nigeria 1-0 to win Olympic gold in men’s football
Angel di Maria of Argentina scored the only goal against Nigeria, earning them the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. Argentina also won the gold medal at the 2004 Athens games.
Brazil beat Belgium yesterday to win the bronze medal.
Argentina wins bronze in women’s hockey
Argentina have won the bronze medal in the women’s hockey, beating Germany 3-1.
Claudia Burkart (11th minute), Carla Rebecchi (23rd) and Noel Barrionuevo (62nd) scored the goals for Argentina. Anke Kuehn scored Germany’s only goal.
Pele who is in Beijing helping with Rio de Janeiro’s bid to host the 2016 Olympics, said Argentina were better prepared than Brazil in the men’s football.
“I think Argentina were better prepared than Brazil,” said Pele. “Once again, Brazil couldn’t win the gold medal.”

In the much anticipated football clash between Argentina and Brazil, Argentina won 3-0 to advance to the final against Nigeria.
Lionel Messi scored and two goals came from Sergio Aguero.
A crowd of 52,968 fans packed the Worker’s Stadium including Diego Maradona.
Nigeria thrashed Belgium 4-1 in Shanghai.
Argentina play Brazil tonight in the semi-final of the men’s football. The match starts at 9:00 p.m and will be played at the Worker’s Stadium in Beijing.
Belgium and Nigeria will play in Shanghai in the other semi-final.
The Argentina - Brazil match is being billed as the Ronaldinho-Lionel Messi clash.

Argentina defeats Australia 1-0 in men’s soccer
Argentina had a win over Australia and they now move on to the quarter finals. Ezequiel Lavezzi was the only goal scorer of the game.
Lionel Messi had missed three chances, Lavezzi scored in the 78th minute of the game.
