Eight pandas have been flown on a China Southern Airlines Boeing 747 from Chengdu to Beijing. The Wolong China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center is just 30 kilometers from the epicenter of last weeks devastating earthquake.

“The pandas have recovered from any nervousness about the quakeand are all in good condition,” said Wang Pengyan, deputy head of the panda research center in Wolong.

Five staff of the research center and two pandas died in the earthquake. Two pandas are injured and four are still missing.
