Chance of rain at the opening ceremony on Friday

Weather forecasters are predicting rain on Friday, the day of the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics.

“Specifically on the 8th, the weather in Beijing will be cloudy and overcast and we will see some rain showers and thunder showers,” said Wang Jianjie, deputy director of the Beijing Meteorological Bureau.

It’s has been quite hot this weekend, but fortunately the pollution has cleared. Perhaps the pollution control measures are starting to have an effect on the air.

Oh, I was under the impression they were going to make it rain prior to the opening ceremony by doing a massive rain seeding operation. Has the idea been rejected for cost?

There was some rain last week after the pollution got really bad. Perhaps they did some seeding, but there were no confirmed reports. Certainly if the pollution builds up again, I am sure they will do something Wednesday or Thursday. If it does rain, it won’t be for long and it will be only light.
