Weightlifting Beijing Olympics

Weightlifting has 15 sets of medals up for grabs and has been part of the games since their inception. Women’s events were added for the first time at the 2000 Sydney Olympic games.

Matthias Steiner wins world strongest man title

Matthias Steiner from Germany has won the gold medal in the men’s 105kg plus weightlifting competition at the Beijing Olympics.
Russia’s Evgeny Chigishev won the silver medal and Viktors Scerbatihs from Latvia won the bronze.

Andrei Aramnau from Belarus has won the gold medal in the men’s 105kg category at the Beijing Olympics.
Russia’s Dmitriy Klokov and Dmitry Lapikov finished second and third, respectively.

China’s Lu Yong won the gold medal in the 85kg men’s weightlifting at the Beijing Olympics.
Andrei Rybakou from Belarus lifted the same weight as Lu Yong, but since Long’s body weight was lower, he won the gold medal.
Armenia’s Tigran Varban Martirosyan won the bronze medal.

We get to hear the Chinese national anthem again today as Lei Cao won the gold medal in the women’s 75kg weightlifting.
Silver was won by Alla Vazhenina of Kazakhstan and the bronze went to Nadezda Evstyukhina from Russia.

Sa Jaehyouk from South Korea has won the gold medal in the men’s 77kg weightlifting. Li Hongli from China won the silver medal for China.
Gevorg Davtyan of Armenia took the bronze.
