China wins second gold medal in boxing

China’s Zhang Xiaoping has won the country’s second-ever gold medal in boxing in the light-heavyweight division, defeating Kenny Egan of Ireland 11-7.
Yerkebulan Shynaliyev from Kazakhstan and Tony Jeffries from Great Britain won bronze medals.

China’s Zou Shiming won China’s first boxing gold today by defeating Mongolia’s Serdamba Purevdorj in the final of the light-flyweight class.
The fight ended early as Purevdorj withdrew with a should injury.

Paddy Barnes from Ireland and G Yampier Hernandez from Cuba won bronze medals.

Virender Kumar from India lost 5-8 to Cuba’s Emilio Correa Bateaux in the semi-final of the middleweight boxing, but still wins a bronze medal as both loser of the semi-finals in boxing win bronze medals.

Horse Sport Ireland has today confirmed their intent to send a three day eventing team of five riders to the Olympic Games which will be held in Hong Kong as part of the Beijing Olympics.
The team will be named after the One Day event in Barbury Castle in early July

Argentina, New Zealand, Ireland all earned their berths for the 2008 Beijing Olympics in men’s field hockey.
Argentina beat the United States, Ireland beat France 4-0 and New Zealand thrashed Trinidad and Tobago with a 12-0 victory.
