Synchronized swimming Beijing Olympics Synchronized swimming is one of three sports that is only played by women. The others include softball and rhythmic gymnastics. It was introduced at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. There are two events: Team Women and Duet Women.

Russia wins gold in synchronized swimming team event

Russia has won the gold medal in the synchronized swimming team event with a perfect score of 100.00 in the team free routine.
Spain won the silver medal and China won the bronze.

Spain’s Andrea Fuentes and Gemma Mengual won the silver and Japan’s Saho Harada and Emiko Suzuki won the bronze medal.

Synchronized swimming is perhaps one of the most ridiculed events at the Olympics. I am sure there are plenty of fans of the event, but there are also people who don’t think it belongs in the Olympics.

Reuters interviewed Spain’s synchronized swimmer Gemma Mengual from Spain and found there is a lot more to the sport than smiles and make-up.
“We train between eight and nine hours a day,” Spain’s leading synchronized swimmer Gemma Mengual told Reuters television.

I went to the “Good Luck Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Synchronized Swimming Qualification Tournament” yesterday at the new Beijing Olympic swimming center. It was great to finally see inside the center and be able to walk around a bit more and even get close to the National Stadium which holds its first event tomorrow [...]

While the weather is still a bit chilly in Beijing, the sporting action is starting to heat up. April is a busy month with the first event scheduled for the National Stadium.
