Security checkpoints in Beijing brings traffic to a crawl

Adding to the layers of security already in place, Beijing has set up security checkpoints on roads going into the capital.

The checkpoints are causing traffic jams and long wait lines for cars entering Beijing.

“We hope that the drivers and passengers that often come into Beijing will be psychologically prepared for the coming two months,” the paper quoted a police spokesman as saying.

“Although the security inspections will be faster, they will also still have to wait in line.”

Any cars not registered in Beijing need to get a special permit to enter the city. Cars also have to undergo emission tests to curb pollution.
