To meet the demand for next year’s Beijing Olympics, a third runway has just opened at Beijing’s Capital Airport.

‘The airport handles 1,100 arrival and departure flights every day. That will probably rise to 1,500 to 1,600 and peak at 1,900 during the Olympics next year, so the third runway is much needed,’ an airport spokesperson said.

The massive new airport terminal which has been getting a lot of hype recently won’t open until February next year.

The airport is expected to handle more than 500,000 arrivals during the Beijing Olympic Games.
