Australian baseball team misses out on Olympic spot
The Australian baseball team who won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Games failed to earn a spot in the Beijing Olympics. Canada beat South Korea 4-3, making it impossible for Australia to go higher than fourth spot.
Taiwan, Canada and South Korea all earned Olympic berths in the tournament.
The other teams to have already qualified include the United States, China, Cuba, the Netherlands, and Japan.

First Asia Boxing Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Bangkok Thailand
The First Asia Boxing Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Bangkok Thailand was held from January January 25th to February 2nd, 2008.
Uzbekistan had four boxers qualify for the Beijing Olympics. Thailand, Korea and China all had three boxers qualify.

Some athletes may train in South Korea
Some athletes might prepare for the Beijing Olympics in nearby South Korea or Japan reports Chosun News.
South Korea and Japan have similar weather conditions to Beijing and is only an hour flight away. Pollution levels may only be slightly better, as both countries still have pollution problems in their main cities.

Japan and South Korea qualify for Olympics
Japan and South Korea booked their berths into the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Japan drew with Saudi Arabia nil-all in Tokyo and South Korea Republic did the same with Bahrain in Seoul.
“We couldn’t play our game because of the Saudi attacks, but I was able to accomplish my mission,” said Japan Olympic coach Yasuharu Sorimachi.
“We once fell to the nether world after losing to Qatar, but it made us tougher, we became stronger mentally.”

South and North Korea to operate railway during Olympic games
South and North Korean leaders met just recently and agreed to operate the railway linking the two countries while the Olympic Games are being held in Beijing.
The opening of the railway will allow people from South Korea to travel to Beijing by train.

India retains Asia Cup hockey title
India defeated South Korea 7-2 in the Asia Cup final. Prabhjot Singh and Rajpal Singh scored two goals each. Shivendra Singh, S V Sunil and Ignace Tirkey each scored one goal for India. Jang Jong Hyun and Oh Dae Keun scored goals for South Korea.
Going by the improved performance of the players from tournament to tournament, I am hopeful that we will qualify for the Beijing Olympics,” Indian coach Joaquim Carvalho said.

Two Koreas to Field single team at Olympics
North and South Korea will be fielding a joint team for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. This will be for the first time since the troubled island split more than 60 years ago.
