Adidas becomes major Olympic sponsor
Adidas has become the latest Beijing Olympic sponsor. The company is betting that the games will be its big break into the massive Chinese sports market.
The cost? Around $80 to $100 million according to this article.

Games to boost travel and tourism in Asia

Wind power projects
German an Chinese companies are investing around US$60 million dollars in a new wind farm in Qindao.
Qindao will be hosting the sailing events of the Beijing Olympic Games.
Qindao has been home to German in the past. It was Germany that helped setup the first beer factory in China, in Qindao. It is branded as “Tsindao” and has become representative of Chinese beer worldwide.

Japanese increasing investment in China in lead up to games
“Business opportunities will probably grow in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics,” a respondent in the services sector said. Japanese direct investment in China totalled 490.9 billion yen ($4.23 billion) in the year that ended in March 2005, up 38 per cent from the previous year.”

Olympics spurs job growth in Beijing
It is expected that the Olmpics will bring in an additional 1.82 million jobs to the city.
Most of the jobs will be in construction, but of course there will be numerous vacancies for tourism related work.
Auditors to probe Olympic spending
Chinese auditors have begun auditing the spending on the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
China has had problems in the past with several officials recently been arrested for misappropriating government funds.
With the world watching China as they prepare the games, officials will be trying their best to ensure a clean, fair games both ecnomically and environmentally.
The Olmpics is a great opportunity for China to show the world how much they have progressed as a place to do business in.

China announces 3G plans
China is preparing to roll out 3G networks by the start of the 2008 Beijing Games.
It seems like the government has bigger plans for promoting China than just sports in the lead up to the Olympic Games in Beijing.
