Venezuela is planning to send 105 athletes to the Beijing Olympics, which is more than double the number that it sent to the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Venezuela is a socialist country and the the President Hugo Chavez has spent a lot of money on building training facilities for athletes. Venezuela is an oil producing country which is probably now enjoying the higher oil prices.

“This is the potential of the homeland,” said the President. “For the first time, 105 and there might be more yet.”
