The Twitter Olympics
You may have heard of Twitter before, someone may have even tried to explain to you what it is all about. I have to admit it took me a while to get what Twitter was all about. I was in Beijing when the earthquake in Sichuan struck on May 12th. My first reaction was turn on CNN, my second reaction was to go to Twitter.
People around the world found about the earthquake on Twitter before any news station was reporting it. We live in world where we want to know what is happening “now” and not 15 minutes later.
There is going to be so much happening at any given time during the Olympic games, you would need to have multiple screens displaying different feeds to just try and keep up with the action. If you just want to at least keep up with the scores and get a feel for what is happening Twitter is the way to go.
Grab an account and do a search on Olympics and Beijing Olympics and you will find a bunch of people and media organizations with Twitter accounts. “Follow” anyone who you think might be interesting and you will receive instant updates as to what is happening.
Make sure you follow us here and if you are also “twittering” the Olympics, leave the details of your account in the comments or send us a message on Twitter.
This is a great feed, but there seems to be a whole lot more than just the winners; I was looking for a Twitter feed that only showed medal winners, nothing fancy. I couldn’t find one anywhere, so I’ve put together a Twitter feed that *only* posts medal winners, directly from the Beijing 2008 site, as they happen, live 24 hours a day:

No ads, no linkbacks, just medal winner updates. Hope people find it useful!
Good idea. Thanks for that.
