Spitz believes Phelps can break his record in Beijing
Mark Spitz is confident Michael Phelps will be able to break his record of seven gold medals at a single Olympics. Plelps won six gold and two bronze medals at the 2004 Olympics and is obviously now stronger than he was then.
“He certainly has more experience, but so do his competitors,” said Spitz.
“But based on the experience he gained from trying to do it four years ago, and based on what I’ve only been able to observe on TV … I would say that he has got a great chance of doing it. Maybe even a better chance — let’s put it that way.”
