Sharon Stone says earthquake was “karma”

The death toll continues to rise from the Sichuan earthquake and now there is chance of further loss of life through flooding.

Speaking at the Cannes film festival Sharon Stone says this is “karma”. After a reporter asked her if she had heard about the earthquake in China, this is what she said:

“Of course I have. Well you know at first I thought I’m not happy with the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans … and I’ve been concerned with should we have the Olympics because they’re not being nice to the Dalai Lama who’s a good friend of mine.

“And then all this earthquake and stuff happened and I thought, ‘Is that Karma, when you’re not nice and the bad things happen to you?’ “

As a Chinese, I am very angry with what she said. Her rude words make we Chinese hurt.

According her logic, maybe the disaster happened in Louisiana is the same as the earth quake.

As an American I think Sharon Stone’s comments are utterly inappropriate. She should be ashamed of herself and apologize, not only to the Chinese but to the Americans for saying such a stupid, insensitive thing. Even if she disapproves of government actions how can she think that the loss of the precious lives of so many innocent, lovely children can be “karma” for some government policy or action. It shows her shallow understanding of the situation and her simplistic overuse of the word “karma”. I deeply disapprove of the actions the American government has taken in Iraqi but I would never consider the hurricane in New Orleans where so many suffered as karmic “pay back” for the US. I am deeply ashamed of her; she has humiliated herself before the world and all thinking people. I have never seek a movie of hers and I would certainly never go to one now

[...] she was “deeply sorry” for causing anguish and anger amongst Chinese people during last weeks interview. [...]

As a Chinese, I totally agree with what she said. You deserve bad things when you hurt others
