President Alan Garcia announced Peru’s intention to bid for the 2020 Olympics saying the Andean nation is ready for the challenge.

Peru has grown significantly enough to stage an Olympic Games with improvements in economy, high level of foreign investment and decreasing poverty rates.

Peru’s largest athletic competition to date was soccer’s Copa America in 2004 and the Under-17 World Cup in 2005.
