NZ runner Kate McIlroy keeps Olympic dream alive
Former world champion middle distance runner from New Zealand Kate McIlroy, is keeping her Olympic dream alive. She has been suffering from injuries.
“I’ve had a problem with my heel bone, it’s hard to explain - it hasn’t really been given a proper diagnosis - but it’s basically a bone stress.
“I actually didn’t run from October till the end of December so I was off for about 212 months.”
“The plan at the moment is to try and get to Beijing. Obviously, I’ve still got to qualify and our cut-off is the 31st of March. So I’m looking to be ready for our nationals which are on that weekend [March 29-31] in Auckland. “I’m going to try and do a qualifier there. If I do that I will go to Europe and then head off to the Olympics,” she said.
