This brought a tear to my eye as I was sitting in my TV room clapping and cheering him on. He had just lost his wife of 3 years, as she just had a car accident a year ago. She was saving up to come to this olympics. He had never lifted 258kgs (248kgs previous best).

I saw him miss one of his lifts. It looked like the Russian was going to win and then he did a great lift, a personal best as you say. I saw him with the picture at the medal ceremony and didn’t know his story, but you could tell there was a family tragedy. One of those great Olympic stories, which is what the Olympics should be about.
