Katerina Thanou named on Greek Olympic team - IOC yet to approve

Disgraced Greek sprinter Katerina Thanou has been named on the Greek Olympic team for the Beijing Olympics.

She was banned for two years after the Sydney Olympics for failing to take a required drug test.

“There are no legal grounds for preventing her from taking part in the Olympics,” her lawyer Nikos Kollias said Tuesday. “[Thanou] wants to take part … I see no reason why this should not happen.”

The IOC still have to give approval before she can compete in the Beijing Olympics.

“Any participation of Thanou … at any further edition of the Olympic Games shall be subject to a new procedure in front of the IOC,” the committee wrote at the time.
