Hubei province ignores TV sex ban

Ahead of the Olympics the Chinese government is cracking down on things of a sexual nature. The Financial Times reports that 44,000 adult web sites have been shut down and 868 people have been detained for online pornography offences.

In Hubei Province a TV station has been blasted for showing sexually explicit material, Reuters reported. “The order banned the showing of programs about exaggerated sexual life, sexual experiences, sexual understanding, sexual organs and the abilities of aphrodisiacs,” the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said.

The locally made film “Lost in Beijing” was also banned by Chinese censors late last year.

With regards to allowing Playboy to be allowed for one month in China while the Olympics are being held, one contributor on Sina.com wrote: “Even if yellow things also exist in China, they are at least kept underground. “The Olympics only last one month. Surely foreigners can go for a month without looking at that kind of thing?”
