German chancellor, Angela Merkel won’t be making it to Beijing

German chancellor, Angela Merkel has decided to take a stance against China and won’t be attending the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Donald Tusk, Poland’s prime minister and V?°clav Klaus of the Czech Republic have announced boycotts.

“The presence of politicians at the inauguration of the Olympics seems inappropriate,” Tusk said. “I do not intend to take part.”

Since the Olympics is after all a sporting event, I can’t really see if it matters whether heads of state choose to go to a sporting event or not.
