Controversial Greek sprinter named on squad

Controversial sprinter Katerina Thanou from Greece has been named on their athletic squad for the Beijing Olympics. She got a B qualifying time for the 100 meters, which means that if her time is beaten she will lose her spot on the team.

“Officially, she has now made the team but we do not yet know if she wants to go to Beijing,” an official from the Hellenic Olympic Committee said.

She missed a drug test on the eve of the 2004 Athens Olympics and was the third time she missed the test. She claimed she was in a motorcycle accident, which was why she missed the tests. She still faces charges of perjury.
