China and New Zealand reach historic trade agreement
New Zealand reached a historic Free Trade Agreement today with China. New Zealand’s Prime Minister Helen Clark said at the signing ceremony at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People that the agreement was “just the beginning” and is more than just a “clearing of tariff barriers”.
New Zealand became the first western country to reach such an agreement.
“We should see it as a platform for growing the value of what we do in China,” Ms. Clark told reporters.
The New Zealand and Chinese flags were on displayed together in Tiananmen Square.
