Beijing’s new airport terminal 3
Since I arrived in Beijing from Xi’an by train, I still hadn’t seen the new terminal 3 at Beijing’s International Capital airport. I took a taxi out there this afternoon.
The new freeway leading to terminal 3, about 5 kilometers out was virtually empty. The terminal is massive and is apparently the largest building in the world - twice the size of the Pentagon.
The airport seemed to fairly quiet, of course that will all change next month when the new airport will get a real workout from the expected 500,000 visitors flying in.
Since I wasn’t actually traveling anywhere, I can’t say anything about the airport services, but everything seemed to be clearly labeled and easy to find. The old airport had very limited dining options, so it is great to see that the new airport has a Burger King, a Thai restaurant and several cafes.
I came back on the airport bus and again the staff were helpful, directing me personally to the ticket seller. It looks like everyone is on their best behavior!
