Alexander Grimm will be happy with his gold in men’s K1 slalom
Alexander Grimm won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics with a time of 171.70 seconds in the Men’s Slalom Kayak Single.
Fabien Lefevre of France won the silver medal. Benjamin Boukpeti of Togo led most of the way until the final run. He won a bronze medal for his effort and snapped his paddle in frustration after a disappointing final run.
Just in case you were wondering where Togo is, it is a narrow country in West Africa bordering Ghana to the west, Benin to the east and Burkina Faso to the north.
It Togo’s first medal ever at an Olympic Games.
Does Togo count as one of your “small countries?” It is the first ever medal for that country of six million people.
