Magic shoes for Japanese runner
Japan’s Athens gold medal marathon runner Mizuki Noguchi will run in a pair of “magic shoes” made from rice husks in a bid to win the another gold medal at the Beijing Games.
The shoes are supposed to help air flow through the rice husks.
“They are so light and really easy to run in,” said Noguchi. They’re like magic shoes.”

Beijing Olympic Green - how is it looking?
The Beijing Olympic Green is a proposed area of 1,135 hectares of parkland and the main site for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The area includes the main stadiums and the swimming center.
The picture below shows how the site is expected to look on completion.
So with 250 days to go, how is the area looking now? These pictures taken just the other day, show that there is still quite a bit of work to do. While we aren’t saying the project won’t be completed in time, the transformation is certainly going to be impressive.
Maintenance issues on the new line 5 subway
Traveling home last night on the newly opened line 5 subway, I was surprised to a hole with a missing vent in the side of a carriage. It has only been about two months since this new subway line opened.
Australia men’s waterpolo team qualifies for Beijing
The Australian men’s water polo team defeated New Zealand in a 2-0 series win in Auckland. They have now qualified to play in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
New signs warn of criminal activity in Beijing
Beijing police are placing signs in the front of restaurants warning customers that warn customers “Criminal Activities Are Frequent Here”.
“It’s like the restaurants, rather than the policemen, are more responsible for customers’ security,” said one manager of a rice noodle restaurant on condition of anonymity, adding that the sign, which has been on the door for more than a month, has affected business.
The police believe that the signs are necessary to beef up security for next years Beijing Olympics. Although restaurant owners say the signs are effecting their business.
“We usually put warning signs on restaurants where more than two crime cases occur every month,” said Jiang Yuwei, deputy head of Jianwai police station, adding that the sign will be removed if no crime is reported within a month.
