Beijing’s air pollution - just how bad is it? 2 replies
Any mention of the Beijing Olympics in the media and you can be sure there will be talk about Beijing and its pollution problems. On some days, the skies can be very clear and at other times the city is enveloped in a thick blanket of smog.
Just yesterday, the Beijing Pollution index was 184.
The American Lung Association rates this as “Unhealthy” and advises:
Everyone may begin to experience health effects and should limit prolonged outdoor exertion; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious effects
Despite some attempts to clean up Beijing, by closing or relocating factories and opening new subway lines, it looks as though the air quality has actually deteriorated the past couple of months.
