Jana Rawlinson on target for gold in Beijing
Jana Rawlinson won gold in Osaka at the World Athletics championships in the 400 meter hurdles. It was her second gold medal at the championships. She gave birth to a son just 8 months ago.
“We’ve had such an up and down year - and to come home with this …” she said. “I know my little son is not quite old enough to understand but I’m sure he’s cheering me on back home.”
China rewrites English menus
The Chinese government has released a list of 2,753 food and beverage items to standardize English menu translations and to curb strange menu items, that would only cause confusion to foreigners visiting China for the Olympics.
Some of more stranger items include “virgin chicken” (a young chicken dish) and “burnt lion’s head” (Chinese-style pork meatballs). Chinese have long eaten almost specie of animal and plant. No matter how hard the government tries to improves its image to overseas visitors you just can’t make delicacies like dog, chicken feet or snake sound anymore appealing.

Canada’s men’s basketball team out
Canada’s men’s basketball team has failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics after losing to Puerto Rico 72-66.
Although they still have another chance to qualify in the Olympic qualifying wild-card tournament next July.

Beijing aims to improve airport service
In preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, airport authorities are doing their best to improve services in the airport. They aim to do this by:
- cutting prices on 1,700 items
- giving updates on delayed flights every 30 minutes
- providing free accommodation for passengers delayed more than four hours
“There is a very obvious gap between it and Sydney or Athens airports,” an International airport survey reported.

New Olympic slogan for China Airlines
China Airlines announced a new slogan fro the Beijing Olympic Games: “Carrying the Olympics, Flying your dream”. The slogan was selected from thousands of entries submitted by China Airline employees.
“Air China will act as the representative of Chinese companies and will strive to offer the best services to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games,” said Mrs. Zhang Chunzhi, Secretary-General of Air China’s Olympic Work Committee.
