Yu Darvish to play for Japan at the Beijing Olympics

Yu Darvish who has an Iranian father and Japanese mother will pitch for the Japanese baseball team at the Beijing Olympics. Darvish dropped his Iranian citizenship so he could represent Japan.

It will be the last Olympics that baseball will be played, although it could make a return at the 2016 games.

The United States team is made up of minor league and college players as the Olympics conflicts with the Major League schedule. Japan will have all of its professional players at the Olympics, except for Major League players Ichiro Suzuki and Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Cuba have won gold medals in the baseball in 1992, 1996, and 2004.

The baseball will be played at the Wukesong baseball field.
