Who will be the world’s strongest man?

The battle is on for the title of who will be the world’s strongest man. After the withdrawal of Iran’s double Olympic champion Hossein Rezazadeh the field has been left open.

The new favorite for the title is 33 year old Viktors Scerbatihs from Latvia.

“Even though the (Iranian) dropped out, there are still a number of strong guys. The competition will be no less difficult,” said Nikolai Parkhomenko, president of the Russian weightlifting federation.

Rezazadeh was replaced by 24-year-old Rashid Sharifi who won the Asian championship this year.

“We lost a great star, that’s true, but now we try to find some new faces,” said Dobor Dezso, a spokesman for the International Weightlifting Federation.

Other contenders include Matthias Steiner (Germany), Evgeny Chigishev (Russia), Jaber Saeed Salem (Qatar) and Artem Udachyn (Ukraine).
