United States cleans up in the pool - Phelps wins third gold

It was a good morning for the United States in the pool at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Michael Phelps won his third straight gold in the men’s 200 meter freestyle setting a new world record of 1:42.96. It was his ninth career Olympic gold medal, tying the all-time record and is on his way to breaking Mark Spitz’s record of seven gold medals at a single Olympic games.

Phelps won a gold yesterday in the thrilling 4 x 100 meter men’s saved by Jason Lezak’s spectacular swim.

Natalie Coughlin won the gold in the women’s 100m backstroke and Margaret Hoelzer won the bronze medal.

In the men’s 100 meter backstroke, Aaron Peirsol won gold and Matt GreversArk won the silver.

Michael Phelps is unstoppable! I’m sure he’ll get the 8 Golds that he is after. :D
