United States beat Brazil to take gold in Extra Time

The United States has once again beaten Brazil in an Olympic Games Gold Medal match. With both sides being scoreless after 90 minutes the match went into extra time but it only took the United States’ Carli Lloyd 6 minutes to put the Americans into the winning position.

Despite a valiant effort by the Brazilians who had numerous opportunities to score in the dying stages of the second half of extra time, the Americans held them off for the win.

This is the third Olympic Gold medal for America in the women’s tournament since football became an Olympic event in 1996.
