Michael Phelps set to equal Mark Spitz’s record today

Michael Phelps will swim in the 100 meter butterfly final today at 10:07AM Beijing time. If he wins the race, it will be his seventh gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.

In the women’s 200 meter backstroke, Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe is favorite for the gold medal. Margaret Hoelzer and Elizabeth Beisel also have a chance at medals.

Rebecca Adlington from Great Britain will be hoping to win her second gold medal in the women’s 800 meter freestyle.

The men’s 50 meter freestyle will be an exciting race and will be fought between Alain Bernard of France, world record holder Eamon Sullivan of Australia, and Brazilian Cesar Filho Cielo who qualified fastest for the final in an Olympic record.
