Manaudou pulls out of 200 meter freestyle event

Laure Manaudou from France has pulled out of the women’s 200 meters freestyle event of the Beijing Olympics after withdrawing from the event at her country’s national championships.

Manaudou burst into tears after suffering her first defeat since June 2004 in the 400 meters freestyle.

Camelia Potec of Romania won the race, with Coralie Balmy from France came in second earning a place on the Olympic team.

“It’s tough, it’s tough to be beaten,” Manaudou told Eurosport. “All I can say is that I am waiting for Arena’s new suit.”
