Last chance for Lagat

Bernard Lagat became the first athlete to win both the 1,500 and 5,000-meter titles at the world championships, in Osaka, Japan last year.

Lagart 33, will probably be competing against younger competitors at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Born in Kenya, Lagat became a US citizen in 2005.

“I still feel like I’m 21, so there’s still more from me,” Lagat said. “I feel in good shape and luckily I haven’t had any injuries or sickness. I’m always strong and I still have few more years ahead of me.”

On the pollution in Beijing he had this to say:

“It will hurt a bit, but it will be hurting everyone,” he said. “The best thing you can do is to prepare your mind for each race and for the win, and not the other effects that come along the way.”
