Fernandes wins Beijing World Cup triathlon

World triathlon champion Vanessa Fernandes from Portugal, took out the Beijing World Cup triathlon. She had also just won a world event in Hamburg, Germany two weeks ago.

“It’s just a race for preparation of Olympic Games, and it won’t be the same in the Olympic Games,” said Fernandes after winning at the Beijing World Cup.

“Of course I hope to win the Olympic Games. Sometimes you have to think about it, but it requires a lot.

“I got a lot to do towards the Olympic Games and further on to a lot of races. I am only 22.”

“What I can do is to try to be my best on the Olympics and the hunger to win for my country motivates me.”

Emma Snowsill from Australia came in second followed by Laura Bennett from the United States.

“It feels pretty awesome. It was a long time coming but it feels good to be here finally,” said Laura Bennett. “This allows me to prepare properly next year and not have too many highs before the main event. So it’s perfect. My race was pretty solid. I was a little crampy in the run, but had just enough to get where I needed to be.”
