Chellsie Memmelis still hopeful for Beijing Olympics

The United States gymnastics team is still hopeful Chellsie Memmelis can compete in the Beijing Olympics, after injuring her ankle in training.

“Memmel is still expected to compete in the Olympic Games,” USA Gymnastics said in a short official statement.

“USA Gymnastics is monitoring Chellsie on a daily basis,” USA Gymnastics president Steve Penny was quoted as saying.

Paul Hamm from the United States men’s team had to withdraw from the Olympics due to an injury. The injuries further strengthen China’s medal hopes in the gymnastics.
