Krishna Poonia of India qualifies for Beijing Olympics
Discus thrower Krishna Poonia from India became the country’s fifth athlete to qualify for the Beijing Olympics.
She finished sixth in the Tennessee Relays, held at Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodger Stadium-Walnut in California.
The other athletes include Vikas Gowda (men’s discus), Renjith Maheshwary (triple jump), Anju Bobby George (long jump) and Susmita Singha Roy (heptathlon).

Tight security for India torch relay
The Olympic torch world relay continues on now through New Delhi, India. Pakistan had a quiet relay after closing off the route to the general public. India will have around 70 torch bearers and around 15,000 police will provide security for the event.

No Indian marathoners in the Olympics games
It looks as though there won’t be any marathon runners from India in the Beijing Olympic Games.
“I don’t think any marathoner will qualify for the Beijing Olympics,” Athletics Federation of India (AFI) secretary Lalit Bhanot said.
The last Indian runner to compete in the marathon was Shivnath Singh in the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
