Bill Gates’ apartment for the Olympics

The Seven Star Morgan Plaza has just become the most expensive piece of realestate in Beijing, with a price tag of around US$7000 per square meter. Offering the best views of the new Beijing National Stadium, or the birds nest as it is known locally, it is no surprise it has gotten the attention of Bill Gates.

The development is actually a little far from the main CBD and central Beijing, but the Olympics are changing the focus of everything in Beijing. Even the government officials are planning to relocate to the area after to the Olympics, from their current digs alongside Tiananmen Square.

The apartments were actually oversubscribed and developers are closely examining buyers, with only 10 per cent of applications to purchase an apartment being accepted, making the complex a developer’s dream.

The complex will include a 7-star luxury hotel. Apartments are expected to be rented for around $800,000 a year.

Bill Gates has reportedly rented a top floor court yard house of the plaza for the Olympic Games. The apartment will have one of the best views of the Olympic venues including the main stadium and the swimming center. We wonder if Bill will have some time to pick up some cheap software on his visit to Beijing.
