Aussie swim coach: fiercest competition ever

The swimming competition at the 2008 Beijing Olympics will be remembered for the fantastic new Water Cube Stadium and the LZR racer swimsuits, which should bring a swag of new records.

Head Australian coach Alan Thompson said the games will be the fastest ever.

“I think it’s going to be the fastest ever,” Thompson said in Kuala Lumpur where the Australians are training and acclimatising before heading to Beijing over the weekend.

“It will also be the toughest to make the semis, the toughest to make the finals, and the toughest to win.

“Whether that results in world records all the time or whether the world records will come in the finals, I think we’re going to have to wait and see what happens.”

The Australian swimming team includes stars such as, Libby Trickett, Leisel Jones and Grant Hackett. The United States has Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff.
